Location guide 7 minute read

Sacramento is an easy city to photograph in. Inside a fifteen-minute drive you can go from a public rose garden to a gold-rush waterfront to a sandy river beach, and each one asks for a different season and a different hour of light. These are the settings I come back to, grouped by the feeling they give a session.

One rule cuts across all of them. In a Sacramento summer, shoot the last ninety minutes before sunset. The heat breaks, the Delta breeze arrives off the river, and the light goes low and warm. Everything below is planned around that window.

Not sure which one suits you two? That is part of what I help with. A session is planned around the light, the season, and the mood you want, which is the whole idea behind the Sacramento engagement session. Before the day, it is worth thinking through what to wear, since a garden and a brick alley call for slightly different palettes. See how sessions come together in the engagement collection, or say hello on the inquire page.
