Folsom gives a wedding day two very different settings to consider: the streets of the Historic District and the water and paths around Lake Natoma. The useful question is which setting fits your venue, your clothes and the time you want to spend away from your guests.

Historic streets and a wedding timeline
The City of Folsom identifies Sutter Street within its Historic District. For photographs in a street setting, think about the walk as well as the backdrop. Where will you meet? Can you step out of the flow of pedestrians? Is the surface comfortable in your wedding shoes? Will your group need somewhere to sit?
A shopfront, courtyard or doorway may look open while belonging to a private business. Ask before using it. Keep entrances and sidewalks clear, and have another option if a location is busy. A photograph does not need an empty district to work, but the plan should leave room to move without holding up other people.
Lake Natoma is its own location decision
Lake Natoma and Folsom Lake are different bodies of water within the broader Folsom Lake State Recreation Area. Share the exact entrance or meeting point, rather than simply writing “the lake” on the timeline. Confirm current access, the route from parking and any permission required for the activity you are planning.
For portraits near the water, choose an established permitted path and a comfortable stopping place. A longer walk can change how much photography fits into a short break between ceremony and dinner. Bring walking shoes if needed and leave room for getting back to the car. We do not need to enter the water or leave a trail to make the landscape part of a photograph.
One setting can be enough
A Historic District stop and a lakeside stop need different access plans. Doing both is a choice, not a requirement for a complete gallery. If time is tight, staying near your reception can make space for family photographs, a few quiet portraits and the conversations you would otherwise miss.
